U-21 women's head coach Tracey Paul names 2023 Junior World Cup roster: USA Field Hockey

The 18 athletes who won gold at the 2023 Pan American Games in Saint Michael, Barbados earlier this year have been named to the U-21 USA Women’s Field Hockey squad that will participate at the 2023 FIH Junior World Cup.

Games are set to take place November 29 through December 10 at the newly renovated National Stadium Sports Park in Santiago, Chile, according to USA Field Hockey.

“We are grateful for the opportunity we had for the U-21 squad to compete together on two teams at the Senior Nexus Championship,” head coach Tracey Paul told USA Field Hockey. “It was a great step in our selection process.”

“Congratulations to all named to represent the USA at the Junior World Cup. We feel confident that this group will build on what we have already achieved and compete successfully with the best teams in the world. In Chile, we will create our own story and make the USA proud.”

The No. 5 United Eagles are scheduled to play their first competition at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30 with a match against Japan. Pool play continues in a contest against England at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1. And, pool play concludes in a match that starts at 10 a.m. against New Zealand on Sunday, Dec. 2.

Crossovers commence on Tuesday, Dec. 5, with the semifinals happening Friday, Dec. 8, according to USA Field Hockey. The championship game is Sunday, Dec. 10. All Junior World Cup matches will be streamed live on Watch.Hockey.

The junior squad will depart on November 22. They will travel to Santiago to acclimate and train, as well as play two pre-event test matches.

The roster includes JPAC Most Valuable Player Abigail Tamer (Whitmore Lake, Mich.). The young squads also includes a handful of athletes, who are also members of the USWNT: Mia Abello (Houston, Texas), Olivia Bent-Cole (Philadelphia, Pa.), Ryleigh Heck (Berlin, N.J.), Josie Hollamon (Delmar, Del.), Hope Rose (Dauphin, Pa.), as well as Katie Dixon (Cary, N.C.) and Lauren Wadas (Annville, Pa.), who were named to the senior team in June after their performances at the JPAC and a follow up training camp.
